Hi guys >_<; Maybe I’m just drained after Uni followed by putting in an application for the JET program all in a rush one after another, but I’m rather uninspired at the moment. Actually I feel a little depressed;; Or like now that Uni is over my life is going to have no meaning. I’m sure that will pass. I hope. But I digress. Does anyone have advice for getting some inspiration back/getting back into drawing? Maybe I should go buy a Ghibli art book or something…

If it helps, Hika, I feel exactly the same! I’ve been waiting for this time since my first year of University, having free time to just draw. Now that I have it, I have no inspiration at all. All my friends from Uni are feeling much the same way too.
I’m sure it’s normal. Our poor brains probably need a rest lol. I felt severely depressed in the first few weeks after Uni finished up, it’s mostly passed for me now though. Hang in there, I’m sure you’ll feel inspired when you’re ready.
I can’t wait to hear about the JET program! Will you be moving to Japan? It sounds so amazing, I really want to know more! ^^
I know what you mean about feeling like your life will have no meaning or direction now… I think at first it seems so overwhelming when you leave school, because for the first time we are in TOTAL control over how our life play out from here on. You have a plan though, so don’t worry! Just one foot after the other :)
As for getting out of an art block, the best way I know of is to draw in a completely different style to your own. Even drawing things you don’t usually draw can help too.
Switching mediums helps too. Try traditional, or pixel art, or even a different program like SAI or Illustrator. Also, checking out artists with awesome, unique styles really helps me too. Try looking at Brittany Lee’s blog for inspiration http://britsketch.blogspot.com/ I love her stuff ^_^ She has heaps of other artist’s blogs listed on her blog too.
I’ll look forward to drawing with you again, Hika ;_; I’m still a little busy atm with some final responsibilities I have at University. It never ends lol.
I’m sure it’ll pass (x You’re just at another crossroads of your life right now and you will soon know where you want to go! I’m so far from finishing uni right now and I am quite jealous of you xP
As for inspiration, there’s always fanart (: A super easy way to make yourself and other fans happy. Or making a storyline and illustrating some concepts O: I guess that’s why rp was always a huge inspiration for me.
Good luck with the program you are applying to \o/
Thanks both of you! ;v;’ I’m feeling a fair bit better now, actually.
@bonxy
It’s starting to pass ;▽;b” I agree, I think our brains just need a rest xD Thank you for commenting >_<; I’m only replying now but reading it and knowing others felt the same/similar really helped.
If and only if I were accepted, then yes, I’d be going to Japan. To teach English for a year (or more if they decide to renew my contract). I really really want to be accepted, because I need that extra push to get my Japanese up to native level. I have good Japanese as it is, apparently, but without spending some time there I don’t think I can get as good as I want to be.
Thank you for all the suggestions! I’m not out of the art block yet, but I feel like feeding in some inspiration has helped in itself.
I’ll be looking forward to it too! ;v; I hope Uni gives you a break soon! xD
@Panda
Hahaha, sorry! Believe it or not, the end of it all does come eventually! C:
Yeah, I might try my hand at drawing some fanart! I have trouble getting characters to look right in my style but it could be fun. Ah, I kind of miss RPing ;▽; iAnti was one hell of a productive time for me artistically. Still tossing up whether or not to ask Kuru to make me an account…
Thank you! It’s technically a job but XD
